Oak Class - Mr Harris

Our Learning

Welcome to Year 6! It's great to see that the children have come back from their Summer break so refreshed and eager to learn - a great start to the year.

This term our topic is called "Revolution" and is about Queen Victoria, the Victorians and the development of technology during Victorian times.  We are focusing on the experience of children at that time and are visiting Horton Kirby on Thursday 14th September to experience a Victorian classroom.  This should be an enjoyable day out as well as an excellent opportunity for learning.  Please watch this space for photographs of the day!

In Mathematics we will be reviewing and consolidating our knowledge of place value, fractions, rounding and Roman Numerals and looking at real life problem-solving opportunities to demonstrate these skills.  Accurate arithmetic will also be a focus as well as thorough knowledge of times-table and division facts.

Other areas of the curriculum will include French, computing and programming skills and sewing (through producing a "Victorian" sampler).  The children will also be learning ukulele with a specialist teacher so please do expect them to bring their ukuleles home to practice.  We will also be going swimming to work towards and in some cases exceed the end of KS2 requirement of being able to swim 25m.
